太平即事
马谦斋
亲凤塔，
住龙沙[1]，
天下太平无事也。
辞却公衙，
别了京华，
甘分老农家。
傲河阳潘岳栽花，
效东门邵平[2]种瓜。
庄前栽果木，
山下种桑麻。
度岁华，
活计老生涯。
注释：
[1]亲凤塔，住龙沙：指天下太平，边塞安定。凤塔：本指宫内楼阁，后指代宫阙。龙沙：本指西北边远山地和沙漠地区，这里指边塞疆场。
[2]邵平：秦代东陵侯，秦灭亡后沦为布衣，就在长安城东种瓜自给。

By Phoenix Tower’s side,
With frontiers pacified,
What with the world in peace can I do after all?
My office resigned,
Leaving the capital,
I’m glad again a rural life to find.
Too proud to imitate the poet planting flowers,
I will grow melon outside the east door.
With fruit-bearing trees before my bowers,
And mulberries at the foot of the hill,
I will pass still
The rest of my years as of yore.
