自去自来梁上燕，
相亲相近水中鸥。

[1] 杜甫这首描画草堂生活的诗，典型地写出了古代知识分子安贫乐道的精神。草堂事事幽雅，燕子自来自去，象征诗人的自由生活；水鸥相亲相爱，象征诗人的家庭生活；人与自然浑然一片，垂钓江上，自得其乐；或相聚家中，下棋吟诗，乐而忘忧。这种知足常乐的精神使中国人过了两千年的太平日子，也使中国落后于西方。

The winding clear river around the village flows;
We pass the long summer by riverside with ease.
The swallow on the beam freely comes and out goes;
The gulls on water smuggle each other as they please.
My wife draws lines on paper to make a chess-board;
My son knocks a needle into a fishing hook.
Ill, I need only medicine I can aford.
What else do I want for myself in humble nook?
