无名氏
出东门，不顾[1]归。
来入门，怅[2]欲悲。
盎[3]中无斗米储，还视架上无悬衣。
拔剑东门去，舍中儿母[4]牵衣啼：
“他家[5]但愿富贵，贱妾与君共餔[6]糜。
上用仓浪天[7]故，下当用此黄口儿[8]。今非[9]！”
“咄[10]！行！吾去为迟！白发时下难久居[11]。”

[2] 怅：失意的样子。
[3] 盎：肚大口小的瓦罐。
[4] 舍中儿母：指主人公的妻子。
[5] 他家：别人家。
[6] 餔：吃。
[7] 仓浪天：苍天。
[8] 黄口儿：幼儿。
[9] 今非：今去铤而走险不对。
[10] 咄：指丈夫因妻子一再劝阻而发出的埋怨声。
[11] 时下难久居：我头上的白发已不时地脱落，实难再在家久待了。

He finds the lack
Of rice in the pot,
And coat on the peg.
With pain
He grieves,
Sword in hand, he starts out; his wife
Clutches at his sleeves
And weeps to beg
Him not
To risk his life.
“Others for wealth may care;
Your gruel I would share.
For Heaven above,
For our unweaned baby we love,
Please do not go!”
“Bah! It’s already late.
Shall we drag on till white hairs grow?”
