《What every writer wants

What every writer wants

I have known very few writers, but those I have known and whom I respect, confess at once that they have little idea where they are going when they first set pen to paper.
🎈where they are going中的where并不表示具体的地点,将这部分理解成“写什么(表示内容)”最为合适。
🎈不知道…have no idea / don’t know…
吗?Do you have any idea / Do you know…
🎈动笔set pen to paper
纵火(烧…)set fire to sth.
到某地去set foot in / on some place

看到,看见set eyes on sb./sth.
例句
I loved that house from the moment I set eyes on it.
非常想要…set one’s heart on sth.
例句

爱上某人lose one’s heart to sb.

They have a character, perhaps two; they are in that condition of eager discomfort which passes for inspiration all admit radical changes of destination once the journey has begun; one, to my certain knowledge, spent nine months on a novel about Kashmir, then reset the whole thing in the Scottish Highlands.
🎈被误认为是… pass for / as …
B  mistake A for B
例句
She is nearly fifty, but she could pass for thirty.

In the breaking and remaking, in the timing interweaving, beginning afresh, the writer comes to discern things in his material which were not consciously in his mind when he began.

A blurred image appears; he adds a brushstroke and another and it is gone but something was there, and he will not rest till he has captured it. Sometimes the yeast within a writer outlives a book he has written.
