无名氏
不读书有权，
不识字有钱，
不晓事倒有人夸荐。
老天只恁忒心偏，
贤和愚无分辨。
折挫英雄，
消磨良善，
越聪明越运蹇[1]。
志高如鲁连[2]，
德过如闵骞[3]，
依本分只落的人轻贱。
注释：
[1]运蹇：运气不好。蹇：跛脚。
[2]鲁连：鲁仲连，战国时齐国人，善于谋略，曾为赵国破解了秦国的围困，但不愿意出仕，被认为是志行高洁。
[3]闵骞：闵子骞，孔子的弟子，以德行著称。

Those who can’t write pass wealthy days,
The ignorant may win high praise.
Is it not Heaven’s care to be just and fair?
How can he not know the good from the fool?
Why are heroes often frustrated
And talents not utilized?
The better they’re, the worse they’re fated.
What is the use to solve dispute
Or have a virtue mute?
If you but do your duty, you will be despised.
