From “Blaming My Gallant” to “Tea-picking Song”
Anonymous
(I)Tune:Blaming My Gallant
Of the four seasons only spring
Is dear and priceless;
The days are bright when sun and moon shine.
Maidens under willows look like a picture fine;
Some in brocade and others in silk dress,
All gather around the swing.
(II)Tune: Gratitude to the Emperor
They talk in cheerful voice,
And make a lively noise.
Among them there’s a palace maiden fair
Wearing a silk dress soft and red.
She grasps with grace the rope of colored thread,
And slightly pushes forward the swing,
Which goes as on the wing.
Her body slowly rises in the air.
Behold!
Her apron gauze still in her hold.
(III)Tea-picking Song
All maidens vie
In swinging high.
Like rainbow clouds near to the sun they fly,
With body light and spirit bright,
Their grace would make the blooming trees feel shy.
