[1]鸣玉珮凌烟图画：年轻时希望自己青云直上，跻身高官王侯之列。凌烟：指凌烟阁，是唐太宗悬挂开国元勋画像的表彰他们的地方。
[2]投老：临老。
[3]昏：昏暗无光。
[4]碎：杂乱，零碎。
[5]闲：栏杆，这里指约束。

I longed to ring my pendants in the Gallery.
Now old, the forest under white cloud pleases me.
Who of the youth still knows the ancient heroes’ deeds?
Their precious swords like blue serpents fade,
Broken to pieces are their robes of brocade,
The flying dragons now become stabled steeds.
