帕布莉卡鸱鸮[1]
鸱鸮鸱鸮，
既取我子，
无毁我室。
恩斯勤斯，
鬻[2]子之闵[3]斯！
迨天之未阴雨，
彻彼桑土，
绸缪[4]牖户[5]。
今女下民，
或敢侮予！
予手拮据[6]，
予所捋荼，
予所蓄租[7]。
予口卒瘏[8]，
曰予未有室家！
予羽谯谯[9]，
予尾翛翛[10]。
予室翘翘[11]，
风雨所漂摇，
予维音哓哓[12]！
猫头鹰啊猫头鹰，
你已经抓走我的小鸟，
就不是要毁我的家了。
辛勤养护我的宝小鸟，
为了养它我又累又乏！
等着天睛没有阴雨，
剥下桑树根上的皮，
修补窗子和门户。
现在你们下面的人，
还有谁敢来欺侮！
我的手已经疲劳，
我还要采茅草，
我还要贮存草。
我的嘴巴累坏了，
我的窝还没有修好！
我的羽毛已经稀少，
我的尾巴已经枯焦。
我的窝还在晃摇，
风吹雨打多飘摇，
我只有大声喊叫。

A Mother Bird[1]
Owl, owl, you’ve
Taken my young ones away.
Do not destroy my nest!
With love and pain I toiled all day
To hatch them without rest.
Before it is going to rain,
I gather roots of mulberry
And mend mynest with might and main
Lest others bully me.
My claws feel sore
From gathering reeds without rest;
I put them up in store
Until my beak feels pain to mend my nest.
Sparse is my feather
And torn my tail
My nest is tossed in stormy weather;
I cry and wail to no avail.
