Mutual Longing[1]
Wife:“I gather the mouse-ear
With a basket to fill.
I miss my husband dear
And leave it empty still.”
Man:“The hill I’m climbing up
Has tried and tired my horse.
I’ll drink my golden cup
So as to gather force.
“The height I’m climbing up
Has dizzied my horse in strife.
I drink my rhino cup
Lest I’d think of my wife.
“I climb the rocky hill;
My wornout horse won’t go.
My servant’s very ill.
O how great is my woe!”
[1]A wife was longing for the return of her husband while he was longing for her on his homeward way.
