Contentment[1]
Beneath the door of single beam
You can sit and rest at your leisure;
Beside the gently flowing stream
You may drink to stay hunger with pleasure.
If you want to eat fish,
Why must you have bream as you wish?
If you want to be wed,
Why must you have Qi the nobly bred?
If you want to eat fish,
Why must you have carp as you wish?
If you want to be wed,
Why must you have Song the highly bred?
[1]This showed that one might enjoy oneself and forget one’s hunger, be satisfied with fish of smaller note and be happy with a wife though she were not of a noble family.
