子之还[1]兮，
遭我乎峱[2]之间兮。
并驱从[3]两肩[4]兮，
揖我谓我儇[5]兮。
子之茂[6]兮，
遭我乎峱之道兮。
并驱从两牡兮，
揖我谓我好兮。
子之昌兮，
遭我乎峱之阳兮。
并驱从两狼兮，
揖我谓我臧兮。
你真轻捷啊，
遇逢我在峱山间。
并排驱赶两只兽，
你作揖夸我好身手。
你真壮健啊，
遇逢我在峱山道上。
并排驱赶两公兽，
你作揖夸我好样的。
你真强壮啊，
遇逢我在峱山南边。
并排驱赶两只狼，
作揖夸我好善良。

How agile you appear!
Amid the hills we meet.
Pursuing two boars, compeer,
You bow and say I’m fleet.
How skilful you appear!
We meet halfway uphill.
Driving after two males, compeer,
You bow and praise my skill.
How artful you appear!
South of the hill we meet.
Pursuing two wolves, compeer,
You bow and say my art’s complete.
[1]This was the compliments interchanged by two hunters of Qi. Some critics said that this was a specimen of admirable satire, through which the boastful manners of the people of Qi were clearly exhibited.
