扬之水，
白石凿凿[1]。
素衣朱襮[2]，
从子于沃。
既见君子，
云何不乐？

素衣朱绣，
从子于鹄。

我闻有命，
不敢以告人。
舒缓不息的河水，
河水中白石鲜明。
身着素净的红领征衣，
大家相送你到曲沃。
已经看到君子了，
怎不心喜若狂？

河水中白石晧洁。

大家相送你到鹄邑。

又有何值得去忧伤？

我听说将有命令，

In plain dress with sleeves broidered red,
We follow you to northern land.
How can we feel sad since
We have seen our dear prince?
The clear stream flows along the border;
Wave-beaten rocks stand out.
We’ve heard the secret order,
But nothing should be talked about.
[1]The prince referred to the uncle of Marquis Zhao of Jin, who was raised by a rebellious party to displace the Marquis in 73 B. C.. The rocks were symbolic of the conspirators and the speaker was an adherent of the conspiracy who had heard the secret order to conspire against Marquis Zhao of Jin.
