羔裘逍遥，
狐裘以朝。
岂不尔思？
劳心忉忉。
羔裘翱翔，
狐裘在堂。

羔裘如膏，

游玩时穿着羔裘，
公堂上穿着狐裘。
难道我不想你吗？
想你想得我心伤。
游逛时穿着羔裘，
朝堂上穿着狐裘。

担心国事我忧伤。
羔裘如膏脂润泽，
太阳出来闪光耀。
难道我不想你吗？
想你想得我哀伤。

The Last Lord of Kuai[1]
You seek amusement in official dress;
You hold your court in sacrificial gown.
How can we not think of you in distress?
O how can our heavy heart not sink down?
You find amusement in your lamb’s fur dress;
In your fox’s fur at court you appear.
How can we not think of you in distress?
O how can our heart not feel sad and drear?
You appear in your greasy dress
Which glistens in the sun.
How can we not think of you in distress?
We are heart-broken at the wrong you’ve done.
[1]The lamb’s fur was used for official dress, but the lord of Kuai wore it while seeking amuse ment; the fox’s fur was used for sacrificial dress, but the lord wore it at court. This showed that the lord neglected state afairs and that was the reason why the State of Kuai was extinguished by the State of Zheng in 769 B. C.
